The U.S. market indices turned up on Wednesday, this week, and made up for all of their losses over the past 2 weeks.  Most of the world indices also had an up week.  I believe this is due to the Fed announcing that it will not raise interest rates until mid 2015.  The free money party is still going!  Also, the price of oil ended this week at the same price as last week.

I continue to look for stocks that have good fundamental financial values, but stock prices near 52 week lows and, where possible, 5 year lows.

My wife still likes Barbie dolls after all these years.  Over the past year, as we watched Mattel (MAT) go from $47.94 to $28.67, she has been pestering me to buy some.  At $28, MAT would be at a 3 year low.  Their 5 year low is $20.  When I see how much money my wife spends on Mattel “Frozen” dolls for the neighbor girls, I decided the only way to protect my cash flow was to own some Mattel, because they pay a 5% dividend.  Their dividend payout ratio is 72% which is above my max. target of 50%, but they are still solidly profitable, so I am hoping the dividend is safe.  Also, several of their toy competitors were downgraded this week on weak Christmas sales concerns, so I think the market is overreacting.
