Investment Idea Sharing Feb. 14, 2015

Investment Idea Sharing – February 14, 2015
See below for my personal stock market Buys or Sells for this week:
Buy Stock:  none
Sell Stock: none

Sell (to Open) Covered CALL: none
Buy (To Close) Covered Call: none

Sell (to Open) Cash Secured PUT: UCO
Buy (to Close) Cash Secured PUT: none

See the details on each of these transactions below the Weekly Summary table.

The world market indices were all up this week.  Russia (RTSI) up 10% on talk of a cease fire and hopes of peace in Ukraine.  The price of oil continued up this week and ended at $52.78, up from $51.69 last week.

I have added a new Pre-Screened version of StockEvaluator.xls that screens for companies with good fundamental values whose stock price has dropped more than 10% over the past month.  Download this new screened spreadsheet here:  http://www.ultimatestockfinder.com/stockevaluator_monthly_drop.xls

On Friday, Costco (COST) and American Express (AXP) announced they are dissolving their 16 year partnership over a disagreement on how much AXP wants to charge Costco per transaction.  On Friday, AXP stock dropped 3% (from $80.48 to $78.08), but COST stock dropped only 0.5%.  I think that AXP will drop a lot more, so I am not interested in AXP until it drops to $60, which is where it sold in Jan. 2013.  I would love to own COST stock, but it is always too expensive for me.

I continue to look for stocks that have good fundamental financial values, but stock prices near 52 week lows and, where possible, near 5 year lows.

I am also looking for ETF’s that pay at least a 1% PUT Option premium for a 1 week expiration, at a strike price near their 52 week LOW.

Option: Sell to Open Cash Secured PUT
Stock Symbol: UCO
Sell to Open Date: 2/9/2015 & 2/11/2015
Expiration Date: 2/13/2015
Strike Prices:  $8.50 & $8.00
Option Prices: $0.17 & $0.27
At $8.50/share, the option I sold on Monday paid me 2.0% for the Friday expiration date.
But by Wednesday, UCO had dropped below $8.00, so I sold another Friday PUT at $8 Strike at $0.27 for a 3.4% gain in 2 days.  Then UCO turned back up and ended the week at $9.19, so both of these PUTs expired worthless.  UCO is the Bloomberg version of the USO ETF that I have been trading since early January due to the low oil prices.

Here is the Yahoo Profile for UCO:  http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=UCO+Profile

Here is the 5 year price chart for UCO, note the HUGE drop since Sept. 2014.  Also note that UCO 52 week low is $6.54:  http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=UCO+Interactive#%7B%22range%22%3A%225y%22%2C%22scale%22%3A%22linear%22%7D
